Augustine of Hippo (354-430 AD) is the most important Christian thinker after the New Testament. An adult convert from North Africa, he became the leading theologian, bishop, and spiritual writer of the fading Roman empire. But before then, Augustine was a wayward young adult whose mother prayed and wept over his mistakes. Augustine’s faith and his personal story still hold many lessons for contemporary Christians, parents and young adults alike, but especially those studying in the city named after his mother Monica.
